21 Days of Tiny Steps to a Happier Me

21 Days to a happier youAny type of behavioural change takes time. There are some truly amazing people that can decide to change something and can do it overnight. I am not one of these. My head is full of wonderful intent yet  lacking the go and get them attitude when it comes down to the crunch. I can beat myself up over pretty much anything and the words “It’s my fault” replay in my head on a daily basis. The irony that I work with behaviour is not lost on me. If anything I probably over analyse every single situation and observe far too much. My work gives me much happiness and also sadness. Mothers who blame themselves for things that are totally out of their control, yet I do the same.  My nature is generally optimistic, forever looking for the bigger picture and what possible lesson have I been taught. This alone looking for the lesson can go over in my head for days.

Appreciating that we are all different with varying life situations I wanted to attempt something we can all do together as moral support even from those we may not know well can make a difference. The Easy Peasy Kids Facebook Page has grown into such a wonderful community that it makes me beam from ear to ear. You are all so very supportive of each other and of me.

Now I could write about how the brain works with behaviour and changes but it’s past 5pm on Sunday and I want to spend some time with my family. So the gist of this 21 Days of Tiny Steps to a Happier me is simple.

Tonight you need to think of just ONE thing that you would like to get some handle on over the next 21 days. I know Kristy from Imperfect Mum is doing a weight loss challenge, so you could join her. From reading your comments you could have yelling less, not losing my temper so often, not getting wound up, getting some me time, exercising, eating healthily, finding happy moments etc… But you only pick ONE. It can be anything you like. Just an area of your life that you believe that if you do it will make you happier.

Once committed to what you would like, you can leave a comment here on the blog or on the Facebook Page saying what it is or keep it private. I am personally going to spend the next 21 days focusing on YOU and this challenge, which means I commit to blogging about my day and how you are finding the 21 days. You will be able to ask questions here on the blog or Facebook page and I will try my hardest to answer and help you through the next 21 days. Along the way, there will be very tiny tasks I may ask you to do. Which I believe may make you feel a little happier. You don’t have to do them. There is no pressure this is not a challenge.

The 21 days will have good and bad days, somedays you may just go off into a complete crazy day where everything just goes wrong and your ONE commitment falls by the wayside and you know what? That’s ok. You can get back on track, the next day or the one after. That’s why it’s 21 Day’s of Tiny Steps to a Happier me.

So THINK what is your ONE thing………..

  1. I pledge to work on my fitness. Trying to do a little bit of exercise everyday.

  2. I am going to try to not let my anxiety get the better of me.

  3. I’d like to stress less. My 4 children stress me out alot with simple things.
Mstr Twin 1 won’t talk to adults. Ms 9 thinks she’s 23 and gives me a lot if grief.
Ms 3 is extremely clingy. Mstr Twin 2 seems to have it in for his brother constantly …
So, I think stressing less will make me see things a little clearer x

  4. I am going to commit to a healthier diet with weight loss in mind.

  5. I’m going to try to not get as agitated by small things that shouldn’t matter. I hope by posting this instead of thinking it I will have better success 🙂

  6. I need to work on my coping skills. Having a husband who works long hours, sometimes 7 days a week, when you have 4.5 yr old and and 2 month old, and no family support close by leaves me overwhelmed a lot. Would love to learn to accept this and stop the anxiety it can bring.

  7. I will declutter 15 mins a day for 21 days. I think that would make me really happy if I could do that!

  8. Bec Hart says

I’m going to focus on better food & fitness

  9. I would like to reduce my anxiety, which is extremely high and focus on a few positives each day. I am reaaaalllyy hoping baby steps will work. I seem to have a good day followed by three or four not so good ones. Fingers crossed. 🙂

  10. I like this idea. And I love the way you are so open about being so human, it’s amazing how refreshing it is to read. I just linked here from reading your post about us all having two faces. Thank you so much.
And to the point, I’m going to commit to not losing my temper so easily. One thing that I hold the most guilt for. Now I have to go stick up some signs only I’ll understand to remind me!
And don’t reply to me, go enjoy the evening!

  11. Ohh, Just saw this. Thanks so much for the mention Nat. What a fantastic idea you have here! XX
