Blogopolis a newbie’s point of view -The Final Countdown !

Blogopolis – Yes!

Yes! only a few days to go and how am I feeling? Excited, nervous, happy and ‘bring it on’,  are just a few of the emotions running through my body. When Nuffgang announced Blogopolis, I couldn’t sign up quick enough, an opportunity to have master classes by la creme de la creme  bloggers and meeting a whole new community that I engage with so much.

Then I felt the butterflies coming, why? who knows. Could it be seeing the list of attendees growing and growing there are now 265 bloggers attending. How was I going to get through so many blogs and know everyones real name, their blogging name and match their real face to their avatar? Thank God for name badges.

I do read a lot of blogs and tweet a fair bit and do consider you friends, I’ve shared things in the blogging and tweeting world that I would normally keep quiet about, yet I’m still a little nervous. It seems to be a little like Internet dating, meet online first, spill the beans and then meet in real life. Hopefully they won’t be too many surprises in stall because I do believe we tweet and blog for real, where as Internet dating well I’m sure you know the stories.

I have attended some small blogging  events and met some bloggers and I promise they were all very very lovely. So I do know some friends  attending Blogopolis, it may be hard to find them with so many  bloggers there, but if you are completely new and know no one, head over and find me I’ll be your friend.

Blogopolis Logistics

Logistically I’ve had a bit of a nightmare organising the whole weekend, I had planned a two night stay away from home, with an unadulterated stay in a hotel, on my own. By unadulterated I mean  sleeping in past 5am, reading with the big light on in bed, with no distractions like a high action movie blaring away. Alas all this planning fell through as mum’s nurse double booked herself, so cannot sleep away from home. So I will be changing in the car in-between events, pre drinks and post drinks, driving into and out of the city starting on Thursday night and finishing up at home at some stage on Saturday night.  Not having a night nurse for mum has not deterred my determination to attend all the surrounding events including the Bloggers Brunch on Friday morning. So I’ll be the haggard looking one, trying to keep it together.

Blogopolis be prepared!

I had grand illusions of being able to read up on all the attendees and their blogs, then realised that would be a little crazy and would involve actually having no sleep what so ever leading up to Blogopolis.  My preparation is therefore zilch. Well bar from hopefully leaving some outfits organised that don’t crease much and I am practising walking in heels around the house, should I decide to wear heels for the evening drinks.

I have read the fabulous post by Nikki over at Styling You,on how to get the best out of a blogging conference, wise words by Nikki who is also hosting one of the masterclasses.  Nikki has always been one to interact and answer questions for me, I can’t wait to meet her. I’m sure  Nikki will have a very large crowd around her, so hopefully easy to spot.

I also came across the lovely Zoey’s post over at Good Goog, who like me is feeling a little nervous. Zoey has her awkward tshirt ready and the best ice breaker of all her gorgeous and adorable ray of sunshine –  her baby! I did consider bringing my Mr 6 who does not know what shy means, and he is mentioned in a lot of my blogs and is a great source of inspiration, but No, I will do this on my own. Unless I borrow baby.

Blogopolis have fun

I’m sure Blogoplolis will be a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to meeting so many lovelies that it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I know it will be impossible to talk to everyone, so I aim to meet those I tweet and blog with the most, and that stands just short of 100.

I hope to learn heaps at the Masterclasses, once I get over the awesomeness of the presenters,  which I can then apply to my blogs.

I am bringing a supply of chocolate to hand out with my business cards, as calories don’t count at the weekend and we all may need a sugar hit to keep going and I am a chocoholic.

So newbie bloggers, this is my first big event too, so don’t be too shy come over and say hi, we can be a little shy together.

  1. Sorry to hear that some of your plans fell through, sounds like you’ll be very busy! I am only attending the conference because of work and family commitments. Strangely, I’m not feeling nervous. Maybe because I’m a newbie and don’t know anyone really, it means I don’t feel pressure? To be honest, as lovely as it will be to see people (and you again!), I am just wanting to learn as much as I possibly can about blogging. So if you’re looking for me, I’ll be the one buried in a pile of scribbled notes! 🙂

  2. oh man, I hadn’t thought about changing in the car. I was in envy of those interstaters who will be able to go back to their rooms to freshen up. I supose there will be time inbetween events!

  3. Looking forward to it too Nathalie! See you at the brunch Fri morning! x

  4. I’m not attending 🙁 and have never attended a blogging conference but the thought of attending one is both scary and exciting all at the same time!! Hopefully one day in the not too distant future, I’ll be able to meet some of you out there that I talk to via blogs and Twitter! Cannot wait to read all the posts AFTER Blogopolis…although then I may be even more insanely jealous! 🙂

  5. I’m nervous too. I’ve had a lot going on this week and wasn’t even sure if I’d make it. I’m about to look at flights and hotels and hope to hell I can afford it and still come. I’ll need someone to hold my hand and probably some chocolate, so will be great to see you!

  6. in between you, nikki and zoey I am feeling much better. I haven’t had the time to get nervous or the time to read up. I think for me just getting there is going to be no mean feat. So I will be chuffed just to get on the plane and be by myself and absorb the enthusiasm. I haven’t got many expectations which is unlike me, so I am just looking forward to being there.

I don’t know many people personally but I am sure I will make some nice friends.

I realised that a number of mothers are going and are simply desperate to enjoy their time away from their family as a personal reward for everything they do with such dedication in their home. I wish all these mothers a wonderful time, because we truly deserve an opportunity to experience something different and something we can share with people just like us.

  7. Make sure you crash tackle me and say hi! Looking forward to meeting you.
