Mummy’s Words

Mummy’s Words

I am linking up with the ever so lovely Louisa from Everything is Edible in thinking and writing out  the words that define the way I  parent. In Louisa’s words;

“Words I can use to form a mission statement for myself as a mum”

Unconditional Love

I want my children to feel how much I love them and I tell them often. I’m pretty sure they know I love them all the way to the moon and back multiplied by a zillion.

Laughter

There is nothing that compares to hearing my children laugh. Laughing together is the best tonic ever. Laughing and having fun go hand in hand. When Mr 6 giggles my world lights up, when Miss 15 throws back her head and start to laugh its infectious. The awesome connection laughing and having fun with my children is the best feeling in the world.

Empathy

I want my children to have the ability to understand and share the feelings of another, with no preconceived ideas or judgement.

Resilience

I want my children to have the ability to bounce back  from daily life issues. I want theme to have the courage and resilience to give anything a go.With the understanding that trying is good, no matter the outcome, they’ve had a go.

Justice

I want my children to know what is right and what is wrong. How to speak up if they feel wronged and how to stand up and help those that might be treated wrongly.

Freedom

I would like my children to have the freedom to choose whatever path they want to follow, from their religious beliefs, their studies  and their dreams. This is their life and I want them to have the freedom of choice to be what they want to be.

Respect

This is respect for themselves, and those around them. Showing respect to who they come in contact with and using their manners. The respect to listen, the respect to realise they may have been in the wrong, the respect to say sorry. The acceptance of someones apology and forgiving and moving on.

Self- Worth

This is so very important to me. I found growing up I was sensitive to any comments about my appearance, accent and school work. I want my children to be so proud of who they are, not in a pompous way, but to feel happy in their own bodies and confident of their own abilities and passions.

Discipline

The Discipline to follow through when they can and not give up straight away.

Passion

The passion to live life to the fullest. A passion for reading, creativity and using their imaginations. The passion to think outside of the box.

Life Skills

I want my children to have the life skills to be well rounded, happy and confident adults. I want them to enjoy their childhood learning through play. I get them involved in house stuff too, so that they can at least cook and wash their own clothes without being reliant on another. I  try and teach them that life has ups and downs but as long as there is love in their hearts then they will be just fine.

Louisa thank you so much for letting me share

  1. Lovely blog and I agree with the missions. I too would make a similar mission statement.

  2. Dear Nathalie,
Your kids have the best ever parents….and now I am doubly sure.
That is a warm, heartfelt statement of mothering…and you live it.
I know. Your kids are the product ( awful analogy) of two parents who have made a lifetime commitment to grow, foster and develop those kids into whole & assured citizens of 21 Century…
    Much respect
    Denyse

  3. Kimberley Belford says

hahaha love it – so so true
I always get caught out talking on toy phones lol

  4. Beautiful words.

    Self worth is so important

  5. Shirley McCoy says

Beautiful, I love this idea x

  6. I just recently joined the Parent Wellbeing book group and we each made our own parenting manifestos. Very similar to what you’ve done but based on a number of values and ideals based questions. It was a fabulous experience and one that will hopefully shape my parenting and family life for years to come.

  7. So true! If a mission statement for business, then why not for your family? I’m going to pop mine up next to the girl’s naughty seat so when I’m dropping them off I can be reminded of what I’m trying to achieve when they’re doing their best to test it! x

  8. I agree along the lines of Alli here! Wonderful statements such as this are important to have as a reminder for when things are not quite going to plan. They can be used as a reset to let you know all those tears and hair pulling moments are worthwhile.

  9. Love all these points! So few of us actually sit down and put into words the qualities that are important to us to instill into our children. Thank you, Monique 🙂 ps. I enjoy what you write on facebook as well, always such down to earth and practical thoughts and advice without being condescending x

  10. Thanks for sharing such wonderful points for mummys. Mom’s love is always unconditional as she always love her children without any condition or getting anything in back. X#X
