ProBlogger Event 11 Easy Peasy Tips

Bloggers are a Funny Crowd

Bloggers are a Funny Crowd

Just over a year ago I attended my first ever Blogging Event, where I fumbled, felt out of my comfort zone and winged my way through, since then I have attended a few more blogging events where I still fumble, feel out of my comfort zone and wing my way through. This is the wisdom I share stuff I have learnt.

  1. There are LOTS of people going, many of us will feel overwhelmed, it’s OK to feel overwhelmed, excited and anxious. I am all three.
  2.  It can be difficult recalling and matching faces to names and blogs. I try to remember a name whilst instantly my brain seems to obliterate it, if you lose my eye contact, I’m just reading your name badge again. You can break eye contact and read the name badge.
  3. Do not try and write, type, note down every single thing a speaker says (unless you really want to). Enjoy the moment, tweet a little and listen. The whole event is taped . At Least 50% of bloggers will blog about it.
  4. If you see someone on their own, say hi or give them a smile.
  5. You can mix with Bloggers outside your niche.
  6. Remember to give out your contact card if you have one.
  7. Take lots of photos, great if you want to blog about the event, Instagram or tweet.
  8. If you are going to Tweet, Facebook, Instagram or publish the photo to a social media site, I think it’s polite to check with the person you have your photo taken with, some bloggers like to remain anon. Me I just like to check the photo first, spinach in teeth, eyes half closed etc…
  9. It is impossible to have very long conversations, with  so many bloggers there. Sometimes a hi, a hug and an exchange of details is all you have time for.
  10. Darren Rowse is wearing a dress and wig on the Saturday  to raise money in helping send some girls to school in Sierra Leone where the girls sadly have a higher chance of being sexually assaulted than attending school! Details here
  11. Enjoy the day, breath, laugh, learn and eat chocolate.

  1. Great post!
The first post about #pbevent that gave me a sense of “its going to be ok”
First time I read point 8 – thank you!!

  2. Sounds so exciting, I can’t wait to hear all about it. Thanks for the tips. I’ll use them when I get to go to my first conference. Enjoy!

  3. Love your tips. Especially #8. Do you know how many times I’ve asked someone to please not post the photo of me online only to be ignored? Sometimes it’s not a case of a camera shy blogger but a family circumstance and we have to say no FOR OUR CHILDREN. Now I just don’t do photo’s because I am tired of being caught out. Yes it does suck and I feel a little left out sometimes, but it’s my choice and I need to keep my kids safe.

I am bummed I cannot be there, but birthday and all…you know.

  4. Thanks so much for sharing these Nathalie – as Blogging Conference virgins, alisha & I are glad that heart palpitations are somewhat normal! ~ anna

  5. Great post, Nat. Totally agree with #8 – it can be a PITA to get permission from everyone in your photos but you just have to do it. It’s respectful and just because I have photos of myself plastered all over the internet, doesn’t mean everyone wants to! Oh, and I must add chocolate to my Problogger arsenal, oh indeedy! Hope to see you there (without spinach in your teeth). Kx

  6. Mandy Ferry says

Have fun Nathalie, just a little bit jealous. 🙂

  7. Nat … I must have first met you around the time you attended your first event. I didn’t notice your nerves, I was too busy freaking out at be “new” myself – LOL
Glad you are enjoying PBevent 🙂 wish I could be there but didnt feel ready for the interstate journey with new bubba … see you soon. Thank you, as always, for being so transperent about your own journey xx
