Mother’s Day gift; Pssst: In case you didn’t know it’s Mother’s day this weekend

Mother’s Day gift

Mother’s day one day in the year, where motherhood is celebrated. Personally I believe it should be celebrated every day. We should get appreciated  and acknowledged more than once a year because we just don’t stop. As mothers we are on the go continuosly, if its not one thing its another- like a giant treadmill that’s sitting inside a roller coaster, spinning round and round and going up and down, giving us fun moments, scared moments, crazy moments and  moments where you just want it to stop and get off the ride. We may get off, but we do get back on and continue.

Mother’s Day gift WTF?

Now having been a mum for fifteen years I have experienced fifteen Mother’s Day gifts and no I’m not goingto talk about the unsual gifts that I have received from my husband and children, or the gifts that had to be exchanged, or the gifts where I was like WTF.  No, I’m not being nasty ,I know its the thought that counts but bright blue pixie slippers are not my thing as a Mother’s Day gift.

So I’m going to tell you about my most memorable Mother’s Day. It was not an expensive Mother’s Day gift, it came from the heart, thought up my my kids and hubby.

I was Princess for the day. I woke up to  breakfast in bed , a plastic tiara on the breakfast tray and they had printed out a Certificate saying “You are Princess for the Day, You are free to do what you like and we will do all the jobs you do for you” As I read this I thought  “Yippee  I get some ME time”. It was the most wonderful, luxurious day ever. We all stayed home, Mummy got to pamper herself for a nearly two hours. I applied every beauty product I have ever been given, but have had no time to use.  I exfoliated, applied face masks, plucked, slathered my body in creams, condtioned my hair, painted my nails- it felt like paradise. I was feeling like a princess- a clean, happy, beautiful smelling princess.

Hubby and the kiddies, kept to their word, hubby did all the usual stuff I normally do and I got to spend some great time with the children, I didn’t worry about a thing that needed doing. If I rememebered something, hubby would do it. OK ,I had to show him how to use the washing machine and dryer but bar from that, he became Mum for the day.

I felt so relaxed and unwinded so much, it was like I had been on a mini holiday, I realy truly had the best Mother’s Day.

I also felt appreciated, as hubby and the children realised or rather got a bit of a schock at how much I actually do, they got a tastes of my reality and my mother’s world.

The best thing is, it is now a tradition ( I made it a tradition- clever eh). So no gifts for me, apart from the delighful treasures the children buy at the Mother’s Day stalls at school and some home made cards (card are so expensive) , the card money goes to a charity.

So that’s my favourite Mother’s Day gift, I hope it helps some dads out and I really hope to hear that there are lots and lots of  Princesses out there on Mothers Day.

  1. This is so lovely…

I think one has to learn and be grateful for what their family try and do for them on the day. Some mums cannot relax as they find it hard to accept that their normal roles are not being done as they normal do. So ladies if you get this treatment enjoy the ride and be appreciative! It can only get better….

  2. What a fantastic idea! As a princess, I’ll have what she’s having!! hehe!!! I really need some “time out” away from chores, looking after children and work. Some pampering would go a long, long way… 🙂

You know I would have realized how fortunate I am to have a mother like you. I am so grateful and blessed for having a special mom who is always there for me. I appreciate you a lot.
TAKE CARE ALWAYS AND GOD BLESS YOU.
